At the October 15th school board meeting, Dawn McCarthy and Brandon Sandoval were honored with the B.E.S.T. Award for their outstanding contributions. Congratulations to both!

Nomination for Dawn McCarthy, Central Kitchen Manager at Mickelson Middle School: Dawn consistently brings a positive attitude to the middle school kitchen. She engages in great conversations with students as they come through the line, and they definitely notice her absence when she’s not there. Dawn truly loves her job and cares deeply about each student, staff member, and her coworkers. Thank you for being a part of the Bobcat family—we’re very fortunate to have you!

Nomination for Brandon Sandoval, Special Education Teacher at Mickelson Middle School: We are writing to wholeheartedly nominate Brandon Sandoval for the Brookings School District B.E.S.T Award. As a special education case manager, Brandon consistently goes above and beyond for our learners and the team of educators he collaborates with. Brandon's dedication to our students is evident in his tireless efforts to organize accommodations, ensuring that each learner receives the support they need to succeed. He regularly meets with students to discuss their individual goals, fostering an environment of trust and encouragement. His willingness to assist not only his students but also his colleagues speaks volumes about his character and commitment to our educational community.

What sets Brandon apart is his remarkable leadership qualities. He naturaly inspires those around him through his positivity and proactive approach to chalenges. Even when faced with difficult situations, he remains focused and solutions-oriented, always demonstrating a genuine passion for his work. His enthusiasm is contagious, and it motivates our entire team to strive for excellence.
