Boys & Girls Club of Brookings Teen Center are closed Friday, October 25 for full-time staff training and development, and closing early on Wednesday, October 30 for part-time staff training.
There's still time to join Science Olympiad. Open to 6,7 and 8th grade students. Science Olympiad is a team science completion. Practices start this Thursday after school 3:30-4:30 in the 8 Red Science Room. Contact Mrs. Green if you have questions.
8th Graders engaged in the Fort Duquesne Battle Simulation. Students learn the advantages of the French fighting style (guerrilla warfare) and the struggles the British faced in those bright red uniforms in the early years of the French and Indian War. These kids are making memories in 8th Grade History.
Orchestra concert for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will be on Thursday, October 24 @ 6:00pm at PAC at SDSU.

The SDSU Horse Club is sponsoring a petting zoo on Saturday, Oct 26th from 10 am to 1 pm. Learn about different animals, play games, win prizes, and ride horses. Admission is a food pantry item or free-will donation for the Brookings Area Humane Society. If students are interested, there are flyers in the office.

The Mickelson Middle School Band consisting of 146 7th and 8th graders marched in the Hobo Day Parade on Saturday, October 12. They proudly represented the Brookings School District and the city of Brookings.
There will be an informational meeting tonight at 5:30 pm in the MMS cafeteria regarding the 2026 Washington DC trip. This meeting is for current 7th-grade students and their parents/guardians. Mickelson Middle School 6th grade science classes had a wonderful learning experience provided by some of our local conservationists! The Natural Resources Conservation Service visited our school and presented the Rainwater Erosion Simulator to the students. The simulator demonstrated the effects of rainwater on the erosion of different soil types and vegetation. Additionally, the students viewed the "Soil Your Undies" experiment the NCRS did, which compared the biological health of soil on pairs of cotton underwear. We really enjoyed these hands-on learning opportunities in which our students were able to participate.

Due to the fire watch Brookings County is currently under, the ‘Burning of the B’ will be moved from the south parking lot to the BHS track field. We will light the B with decorative lights immediately following the Coronation ceremony.
